Type Five is one of three “head” types and tend to be absorbed in an internal world of thought. They like to be left alone a lot and are most at home with data. The information technology sector is a Five culture, and computer programmers are often Fives. They can be social but are at their best when they are master of their own data universe. All of the error messages that you get on your computer were most likely produced, or edited by a Five. Hard for most people to understand? Yes. Intelligent but obtuse? You betcha. Fives tend to be introverted people but the object of their thinking is externally focused—hence their great knowledge in a wide range of worldly endeavors. Fives can tell you in great detail about their interests, whether it is movies or physics. Their physical presence is unique and often gives them away. They look like they are a million miles away, as if they are channeling thoughts from another world. They are often quiet and appear deep in thought. Ask them a question and you may be startled by how they suddenly appear…like the smartest people in the world. Being such intense thinkers, MetaType Fives run into problems as they can become paralyzed by their thoughts. They can create an entire scenario from beginning to end before even taking a single step. They are often more comfortable living in their minds than they are in taking action. Once they act, it becomes increasingly difficult to predict what might occur and like all members of the thinking sector, they are fearful of what may happen to them in the world. They like to stay in the realm of thought where they can control and predict the outcome of any given action. The Chinese culture is a Five culture: they are highly intelligent and detail-oriented. They are not highly emotive people but they are very efficient. In NLP Terms, fives tend to be auditory and internally referenced.
